Do not do routine foot trimming unless essential; if done please follow the guidelines below

Sort sheep immediately after gathering into lame and sound groups

Sound sheep

§       Handle before lame sheep

§       Trim overgrown feet only

§       Keep trimming to a minimum and do not trim to blood

§       Sweep away hoof clippings and dung from trimming area between groups

§       Clean and disinfect trimming equipment between sheep

§       Move to clean field (see action on management of fields)

Lame sheep

§       Inspect feet

§       Scald, footrot or CODD (see action on treating footrot, scald or CODD)

§       Other causes of lameness, if not footrot, scald or CODD

-   Treat the cause of lameness

-   Manage as sound sheep
